Pax holds successful conference in Brussels on capacity building, partnerships.

Pax Mondial held a successful week-long series of meetings, round-table events, and presentations in Brussels from March 25-31, during which Pax CEO Paul Wood and other senior executive officers presented Pax Mondial’s ideas on capacity building and strengthening partnerships between Africa, the US, and the EU, in the areas of crisis response, stabilization, and development in post-conflict areas.

High-level participants and guests included keynote speaker Prof. Jean-Pierre Ezin (Commissioner for Human Resources, Science and Technology for the African Union) and Mr. Solomon Tessema (Deputy Head of the Ethiopian Mission to Brussels), among other institutional delegates from the EU and African Union countries.

Construction in South Sudan and risk management in Ethiopia

Pax Mondial is happy to announce that we have completed the construction of the new Ministry of Energy and Mining building in South Sudan, a project which was funded by the Royal Norwegian Embassy.

In Ethiopia, we are pleased to announce that Pax Mondial was awarded a Risk Management contract with BHP Billiton in support of their operation to extract potash in the Danakil Depression.

MAT Mondial to offer ERW training online

MAT Mondial will be launching its online learning initiative shortly, allowing those working overseas to study how to mitigate the threat posed by the Explosive Remnants of War (ERW). This essential learning experience takes students through ERW Bronze and Silver standards in a modular learning format. The ‘Gold’ Assessors standard is attained on a residential course after Bronze and Silver are attained online.

MAT Mondial provided humanitarian assistance

In February, MAT Mondial’s training team provided humanitarian emergency assistance in Kosovo during extreme weather conditions, rescuing a 9 year old boy with a life threatening illness and transporting him to hospital.

Pax Mondial successfully obtains Risk Management Company license in Afghanistan

October/November 2011: MAT Mondial’s EOD & de-mining school provides dedicated training to ICRC and a UK police force.

MAT Mondial was contracted by the ICRC to train its regional mine action advisors. The training took place at the MAT Mondial EOD & de-mining School in Kosovo over an intense 3-week period. The bespoke training package was developed to the client’s needs and included humanitarian imperatives for mine action, EOD to intermediate level and quality control and quality management of national mine action programmes. During this same period MAT Mondial was contracted by a UK police force to train its bomb disposal team in up-to-date techniques for managing and planning incidents, tasking assets and dealing with a myriad of ordnance from WW2 abandoned ammunition. This training, at the clients request, also featured training the police specialist personnel in reacting and responding to incidents to counter the improvised explosive device threat – the use of C-IED weapons and dealing with chemical, radiological, biological and nuclear devices. At the request of the client the training was held in the UK .

November 2011: MAT Mondial’s specialist K9’s go operational for two clients in two continents simultaneously.

MAT Mondial, PAX Mondial’s EOD, De-mining and K9 Division, is pleased to report that its specialist K9 Detection Dog Groups have deployed to, and commenced operations in Southern Sudan (Mine Detection Dogs) and in the south of Iraq (Explosive Detection Dogs). Both projects were operational on time and to the clients complete satisfaction.

September 2011: Senior VP Skip Waskin speaks at Soft Power Symposium

On September 27, 2011, Pax Mondial Senior Vice President of Stabilization and Development Skip Waskin spoke at a symposium about soft power. Mr. Waskin discussed how to harness private sector capabilities to augment U.S. military and diplomatic efforts in an increasingly austere economic environment.

The “2011 Leadership Symposium: Soft Power Protocol – Developing Common Language and Procedures to Harness NGO & Private Sector Capabilities through Partnerships Supporting U.S. Policy” was hosted by League for Hope and co-hosted by Pepperdine University in Washington, DC. CEO Paul Wood participates in debate on failed states and globalization

CEO Paul Wood represented Pax Mondial in a debate during the June 29th launch of the 2011 Failed States Index (FSI) in Washington, D.C. The event was co-presented by the Fund for Peace and Business Executives for National Security, and hosted by the National Press Club.

The FSI is a leading index that annually highlights current trends in social, economic and political pressures that affect all states, but can strain some beyond their capacity to cope. Apart from the impact on their people, fragile and failed states present the international community with a variety of challenges. In today’s world, with its globalized economy, information systems and security challenges, pressures on one fragile state can have serious repercussions not only for that state and its people, but also for its neighbors and other states halfway across the globe.

The 2001 launch event included a keynote address by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Michael Mullen, who spoke on the challenges that fragile and failed states pose for the international community. The debate centered on the motion that “failed states are a product of modern globalization.” Paul argued against the motion with partner Arvind Subramanian, of the Peterson Institute for International Economics and Center for Global Development. A poll of the audience before and after the debate indicated that the “negative” side won.

Exmed providing medical, safety support for Comic Relief desert trek in Kenya

Exmed, a wholly owned subsidiary of Pax Mondial, is proud to be providing the medical, safety and logistical support to this year’s BT Red Nose Desert Trek in one of the most inhospitable places on earth: the Kaisut Desert, Northern Kenya.

Nine celebrities including Scott Mills, Dermot O’Leary, Craig David and Lorraine Kelly will stretch themselves further than ever before in an effort to raise as much money for Comic Relief as possible. The mission is to trek 100 kilometers (62 miles) over desert terrain, climbing over mountains and scrubland in temperatures of up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius).

Comic Relief is a British charity organization founded in 1985 in response to famine in Ethiopia. The highlight of Comic Relief’s efforts is Red Nose Day, a biennial telethon held in March.
